Low rank coals (LRCs), also referred to as lignite or brown coal, account for more than 50% of the world coal reserves. Their applications, however, are limited due to their high moisture amount, low heating value and spontaneous combustion property. For example, moisture content in Victorian brown coal can be as high as 66%, whereas Silesian anthracite may contain as little as 0.6%. Lignite dryer is used to reduce the moisture content to improve heating value.
Lignite dryer usually consists of furnace, conveyor, feeder, rotating drum, motor, reducer, front and back rings, support and drag rollers, discharger, dust collector.
Principle of lignite dryer:
Lignite is sent into drum by feeder. As drum rotates, lignite moves forward slowly. At the same time, it is lifted and scattered by lifting boards repeatedly. Under high temperature and strong airflow, lignite gets full contact with hot air. Most moisture is removed during this process. Dried lignite gets discharged at the outlet of lignite dryer.
