Description :
Tamoxifen/Nolvadex, is given to treat breast cancer in women and men. It is used to lower the chance of breast cancer in women with a higher than normal chance of getting breast cancer in the next 5 years (high-risk women).
tamoxifen/Nolvadex is used to reduce the risk of breast cancer spreading in women who have ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) (breast cancer located in the milk ducts and which has not spread) and have already undergone breast cancer surgery and radiation therapy.Many women have breast cancer that tests positive for estrogen receptors (ER+). This means that estrogen promotes the growth of the breast cancer cells. Tamoxifen blocks the effects of estrogen on these cells.
Tamoxifen is highly effective in lowering the risk of breast cancer recurrence. In women who have already had breast cancer, tamoxifen also lowers the risk of breast cancer in the opposite breast (contralateral).
For postmenopausal women, a two-stage treatment using tamoxifen and then an aromatase inhibitor, such as anastrozole (Arimidex), exemestane (Aromasin), or letrozole (Femara) may work better than only taking tamoxifen
Although tamoxifen reduces the risk of breast cancer, it may increase the possibility of developing endometrial (uterine) cancer. Women should notify their physician immediately if they develop abnormal vaginal bleeding, experience changes in vaginal discharge, or feel an increase in pelvic pain or pressure.

Tamoxifen/Novadex slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are already present in the body. It helps keep the original breast cancer from coming back and helps prevent new cancer in the opposite breast. It also reduces the risk of breast cancer in women who have a high risk for this disease.
The recommended daily dose of Nolvadex for patients with breast cancer is 20-40 mg per day.Patients taking anastrozole or letrozole should not take Nolvadex as serious interactions could occur. women who are taking Nolvadex should not breast feed. women who are taking Nolvadex should not breast feed.
