As the dryer of nylon yarn, fiber and plastic film, solvent of dye, cellulose ester and casein, intermediate in the production of benzyl ester or ether. Widely used in pen making (ball pen oil), paint solvent, etc. Benzyl alcohol has week and fragrant odor and often used as diluent in fragrance industry. Benzyl alcohol is a very active alcohol and can generate halogenated benzyl with halogen acid and halogenated phosphorus. The halogenated benzyl and benzyl alcohol are both benzene methylation reagent.
